Summer Fortunes To Spending Fortunes
I love May and June – late spring, early summer is where I always seem to get the most enjoyment out of life, the best feeling. The weather is potentially at its best – not quite peak heat of summer, there can be long spells of glorious weather, as there was this year, there are good chances of thunderstorms – though of course not with my storm shield deflecting them. The trees are blooming (albeit hayfever can sting), flowers looking gorgeous – I love passing by wild flower hedges, ducklings will have hatched – life is blooming once more. My …
And Goodbye Reading
Tonight is (written on Friday) my last night in Reading, and yes I am feeling rather sad about it. Those born in Reading don’t seem to appreciate what the town offers to them and I guess if you are comparing the history of Windsor, the tranquil beauty of villages such as Sonning, or the international excitement of London, then maybe Reading is a little underwhelming. But if you’ve been brought up somewhere rough, like I have, then Reading is a place of beauty. And I am leaving it reluctantly. My home town is Hull and I do have a lot …
Goodbye Baydon Drive
So it’s goodbye Baydon Drive on Saturday. It is without doubt the house I have enjoyed living in most and the nicest house I have lived in. It may well be the nicest house that I ever live in. I had to move out of the grotty flat that was consuming far too much of my money. I didn’t want to go back into a house-share but it was a great decision, helped by living with a champagne socialist. The house had its imperfections, but there was lots of space to store all my stuff and the neighbours never complained …
Reading vs Bracknell vs London
During March’s monthly no computer night, and I actually ended up laying down and allowing myself time to do nothing but think, which is quite unusual for me. The two important items on my thought-agenda recently have been what next step to take in my career, and where to live next. Firstly I would like to progress my career. At some point I want to be doing web development, but I would have to start way down the pecking order on a lower wage. I am not yet developed enough to be doing this. I am happy in my current …
The Reading FC Experience vs The Hull City AFC Experience
So I have just been to watch Reading. I thought a lot about Hull City during the game. Despite the similar-sized stadiums and clubs been of reasonably equal stature on average over the past 5-6 years, there were many differences. Before you ask, it was a free ticket and I supported Barnsley, albeit secretly. 1. I paid £8.80 for two pre-match pints in a local pub. I probably would have got four pints in Hull.2. The food looks much better at Reading. At Hull the seats look more edible that the hot dogs. At Reading, the food looks appealing – …
I like To Move It, Move It
As Erick “I DJ to stick my cock in bimbos” Morillo once sung, “I like to move it, move it”. Actually, I don’t, I hate moving. But still, it is time to ask myself where I should be living. Don’t worry, friends, lovers, groupies and future haters – I am staying in Reading. At least until my house music revolution has propagated me to playing alongside Paris Hilton at DC10 every week, or on the off-chance that my plan fails and the lure of Shoreditch proves so much so I can finally wear purple leggings, string vest and a sailor’s …
Shock Horror – Reading Is Still A Town
So Reading has not been chosen to receive city status. Anyone who seriously thought that they would be, especially when it is in honour of the Queen’s jubilee year was quite frankly, deluded. Simply, the Royal Family despise Reading. And who would blame them from their experiences in recent years: 1. Prince William went to Mecca Bingo once a few years back. It is due to be demolished. 2. Prince Harry went to Mango. It is closed. 3. The Queen opened Reading train station. It is due to be replaced shortly. 4. …
From Disco To Disco
From Disco To Disco. So I braved another night out in Reading, this time on the basis of the name. It is in the relaxed Up The Junction bar in Cemetery Junction. Quite a basic looking place but this is dance music and elegant looking places tend to be full of tossers. And it is free entry and very reasonably priced drinks too. What more do you require? Oh yeah, music. Musically I am delighted to announce that it was most definitely up my street…about time! A mix of disco, new and old, house, garage and electro (nothing too painful) …
Crossroads
I kind of feel that I am at a crossroads in my life at the moment. I do not have a defined career goal, and now the shackles of employment have long been released, the world is kind of my oyster if I want to go somewhere new to find a job. But I am not the travelling sort, I like my life as it is, and have become quite appreciative of myself, but my life is missing something. Instant pleasure would be gained through being able to enjoy the music I love so much, in my local area. But …
Date For Your Diary – I Think Somebody Loves Me
Before I get to it, I must just get something off my chest. I work for a huge global corporation, who now generally only employ graduates – it being such a large building, there are of course jobs there that do not require such qualifications and business experience, such as the cleaners, or catering staff, who are all very polite and respectful. On coming down to the breakfast bar this morning, there was a group of three…people (I cannot think of anything to class them as) causing chaos by the breakfast bar, as if they owned it, and wouldn’t let …
